C’est comme ca que je t’aime - Season 2
For the eagerly anticipated second season of "C'est comme ça que je t'aime," created by Jean-Francois Rivard, the show has ventured into darker thematic territories compared to its initial season. This shift required a corresponding evolution in the visual storytelling, a challenge we embraced in post-production with significant enhancements to our color grading process.
This season, our team made a strategic shift from using a simple Rec709 production Look-Up Table (LUT) to adopting an Advanced Color Encoding System (ACES) color pipeline. This transition was pivotal in handling the series’ more complex, nuanced visual needs. ACES provided a robust framework that allowed for the creation of a consistent look during on-set monitoring and dailies, which we could then seamlessly carry over into post-production.
One of the key benefits of using ACES was its ability to facilitate a unified visual approach across different production stages and hardware setups. This ensured that the visual intent of the director and cinematographer was maintained from the on-set capture through to the final edit, providing a true-to-vision output that was both stable and reproducible.
Implementing this color management system allowed our team to spend less time recalibrating colors during post-production, which is often a time-consuming and costly process. Instead, we focused on enhancing and refining the pre-established look from the shoot. This efficiency not only saved valuable post-production hours but also allowed for a more creative exploration of visual themes, enhancing the atmospheric and moody tones that the new season aimed to convey.
The darker tone of Season 2 was effectively accentuated through our refined color grading, providing a deeper, more immersive viewing experience. The ACES pipeline enabled a higher level of precision and consistency, ensuring that each scene conveyed the intended emotional impact and supported the dramatic narrative developments.
By adopting this advanced color pipeline, we not only elevated the visual quality of "C'est comme ça que je t'aime" but also streamlined our workflow, illustrating how technical advancements can profoundly enhance creative storytelling.
